Madman to be assessed in drug treatment court

A man remanded for psychiatric evaluation after he destroyed sev-eral household items in his mother's house was further remanded yesterday until February 29 when he will be assessed in the drug treatment court.

An overly excited Colin Blackwood, charged with malicious destruction of property, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court before Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey.

Blackwood had asked the RM if he could be granted bail since she was satisfied with the results of his mental evaluation but he was told to remain in custody at least until next week.

The court had been apprised by Blackwood on his previous court appearance that he was an abuser of cocaine and he wanted the court's assistance to break his habit.

On the day of the incident, Blackwood allegedly destroyed several dinnerware items and was later arrested and charged.
