Green Island High will be aiming to make it a back-to-back win for teams from rural Jamaica at next week's Gibson Relays, with the Odail Todd-led team the fastest so far this season, after winning at the Milo Western Relays. Green Island clocked 40.50 seconds and are the only high school team to have gone sub 41 seconds so far this season. After being crowned World Youth Championships 100 metres champion last year, Todd will be hoping to lead his team to their first relay victory in this event at Gibson. Green Island, following up on their performance at the Catherine Hall Complex, will be hoping to continue their winning ways and prove the win was no fluke, against a field with top teams like Kingston College, Wolmer's Boys and St Elizabeth Technical which were left behind. dominance Last Saturday the team maintained their dominance over teams from the west when they clocked 41.10 seconds to win at the Western Championships, getting the better of Herbert Morrison and Munro College. Despite not being close to their season best, it was still a good win and come Saturday they will be hoping to run much faster, but they will have to contend with a Wolmer's team at full strength. The David Riley-coached team, despite finishing third at Milo Western Relays, was without top man Odean Skeen, whose presence will make a big difference. The Heroes Circle team will also include former Munro High standout, Adam Cummings, and Jermaine Fyffe who was a member of the second-place team, St George's College at last year's event. Both athletes will definitely add a lot of firepower to Wolmer's, who also have top sprint hurdlers Yannick Hart and Kevaughn Allen to choose from. The Michael Campbell-led Herbert Morrison Technical should not be taken lightly, while the likes of Kingston College, Calabar, Manchester High, Bridgeport, led by Jahzeel Murphy, and Munro College, will have to lift their performances if they hope to finish in front. |
