Emotions flow at court |

Sorrow and guilt flooded the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Friday when a man charged with obtaining money by false pretence appeared before Senior Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey. He is Andre Thomas, a supervisor, of a popular funeral home, whose bail was extended until May 1. On the day of the incident, it is alleged that Thomas sold his father's car to the complainant in the sum of $166,000, but did not furnish the complainant with the car. Thomas' parents who appeared in court with the money, and seeing their son in the dock was brought to tears when they spoke to the RM. His father, who had a long career as a lawyer and accountant, expressed dissatisfaction at him and apologised to the court on behalf of his son who showed little remorse. It was then that RM Pusey drew her Bible and gave Thomas a sound reprimand, quoting scriptures about obeying parents from Ephesians and honouring one's father and mother from Exodus. She then told him vociferously, "When you let eye water fall at your parents feet, bad blessing will follow you". His bother then begged the RM to get him some help. |
