Man fined $40,000 for breaking windows

The man who damaged the windows of a house after he threw large stones towards the building made restitution in the amount of $40,000 yesterday, and was bound over to keep the peace for 12 months.

Jamile Rodriques, who is charged with malicious destruction of property and assault at common-law, was also offered $5,000 bail with surety in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court.

The complainant told the court that on the day of the incident the defendant became irate because she had turned off the lights in her family house to save energy.

According to her, the defendant voiced his disapproval by remarking, "Wha do dem duppy people yah!"

Furthermore, she said he later became exasperated after he was spoken to by her mother, which led him to throw large stones into the house.

The complainant added that the defendant also pointed a knife towards her face in a threatening manner.
