David Dunkley, News Coordinator The female cop who was taken into custody in connection with a case in which evidence was allegedly fabricated against alleged Stone Crusher leader Eldon Calvert has been released. Head of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), Assistant Commissioner of Police Justin Felice, last night confirmed that the policewoman, a detective corporal attached to the St James Police Division, was released from custody. Felice said she was released because further investigations are to be done into the matter. According to Felice, "A further line of enquiry is to be undertaken so that we can get some information that we need to possess." Felice said that the policewoman was released late yesterday afternoon and is now free to resume her duties. Asked if this latest development could be potentially embarrassing to the Jamaica Constabulary Force in general and the ACB in particular, Felice said no. He said the matter is pending further enquiries and the director of public prosecutions will have to make a decision about the murder case. On Monday, the detective corporal from the St James Police Division was arrested on reasonable suspicion of perverting the course of justice and uttering false instruments. The female was arrested following a directive issued last week from the commissioner of police to review all cases where Detective Sergeant Michael Sirjue was the investigator or a part of the investigating team. This directive is to ensure the integrity of future cases. Sirjue was charged with perverting the course of justice and uttering false documents on February 2. According to the police, the charges point to the fabrication of evidence by Sirjue which unfairly implicated accused persons in a case before the Home Circuit Court. |
