![]() Rozah (left) and Jawara Ellis.-Contributed Eccentric comedic singer Noel 'Rozah Roze' Ellis and fiery young dub poet Jawara Ellis will join forces and merge energies in an eclectic entertainment package titled 'Ellis Experience - the legacy of Alton Ellis' at Spiritz Bar & Restaurant at the Quad Nightclub, 20-22 Trinidad Terrace, in New Kingston today. The evening will feature songs and poetry from the contrasting Ellis duo of Rozah and Jawara, along with guest appearances by dub poetry originator Oku Onuora as well as Alton Ellis' youngest son and Ghetto Youth International recording artiste Christopher Ellis. Rozah Roze is the first son of the late rocksteady icon, and although he has made a name more for his wacky demeanour and his comedic parodies, especially with his appearances in 'The Ity & Fancy Cat show', he is an unquestionably talented singer who can also belt out the Alton Ellis classics and crowd favourites. Patrons can expect a generous mix of both as Rozah showcases his full range today. Jawara is the first son of veteran actor, comedian and teacher Owen 'Blakka' Ellis. He achieved major accomplishment in the sport of karate as member of Jamaica's Combined Martial Arts team, and was the first martial artist to receive the Prime Minister's Youth Award for Excellence in Sports. He is also a graduate of the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts, majoring in theatre arts education. More important, he is also a dub poet, whose first album is due for release soon, as well as a single featuring his collaboration with dub poetry's grand master Onuora. A tribute to Reggae Month, 'Ellis Experience - the legacy of Alton Ellis', is a joint production of Ellis International and Mo Muzic Pros. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show gets going at 8 p.m. |
