Teachers to face court after beating student

Two teachers charged with assault occasioning bodily harm following the beating of a student will reappear in the Linstead Resident Magistrate's Court on March 16.

They are Marjorie Bailey and Christopher Minzi of the Ewarton Primary School in St Catherine.

When the case came up in court, it was revealed the complainant and his mother were absent.

Defence attorney Deborah Martin told Resident Magistrate Natalie Brooks there was a need to have the assistance of resource personnel in the matter.

"Your Honour, the circumstances are where the Child Development Agency and the children's advocate are required," Martin said.

This was agreed by the Crown and both accused persons were bound over until their next court date.

The allegations before the court are that in May last year, the complainant reportedly gyrated on a female student.

He was summoned to the principal's office where he was beaten. The principal left and the beating continued.

The boy suffered bruises and related his ordeal to his mother.

A medical examination was conducted and subsequently reported to the Ewarton police.

An investigation resulted in charges of assault occasioning bodily harm been proffered against them.
