Rasbert Turner, Star Writer

A man who was reportedly forced to keep an illegal gun was fined a total of $50,000 or two years and six months in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Gun Court on Friday.

He is Nicoy Campbell of Brunswick Avenue, in Spanish Town, St Catherine.

Defence attorney Everton Dewar submitted that the illegal weapon was forced upon his client moments before he was held by the police.

Justice Paulette Williams fined Campbell $46,000 or two years for illegal possession of firearm and $4,000 or six months for illegal possession of ammunition.

The Crown led evidence that about 3 a.m. on December 13, 2010, a police on patrol saw a man walking along Brunswick Avenue. A bag he had was searched and a loaded 9mm pistol found.

He was subsequently arrested and charged with illegal possession of firearm and ammunition.
