Man imprisoned for stealing BlackBerry

Three months' imprisonment was the sentence handed down in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Monday to a man convicted of robbing a man of his BlackBerry (BB) cellphone.

Typon Glave charged with robbery with aggravation was sentenced to three months' imprisonment.

The defendant told the court that on the day of the incident, he was on his way home after a long day's work wiping car glasses when he heard a sound coming from an area of grass.

He went in the direction of the sound and realised that it was a BB cellphone, so he took it up and placed it in his pocket and continued on his journey.

Shortly afterwards, he said he was approached from behind by someone who pointed a gun towards his face and told him not to move.

The person who was later identified to be a cop confiscated the smartphone.

On the contrary, the complainant told the court that he was held up and robbed of his cellphone in Half-Way Tree by the defendant who was armed with a pair of scissors.
