Portmore's Andrew Christie is grateful to have recovered from somewhat of an injury nightmare to net the all-important goal for his team in a vital 1-0 win over struggling High-gate United on Sunday night.

After spending some time out of action, Christie scored a 41st-minute goal to give the St Catherine team three points and keep the surging Waterhouse at bay.

"It's a great feeling for me to score and give Portmore an important three points." Chirstie told Star Sports.

defence role

"It's the first time I have been playing mid-field all season because I have been used mostly in a defensive role, but the change has worked out," he added. Christie played in the Manning Cup for St Andrew Technical in the 2008-09 season, where Portmore scouts noticed his skills. He has not looked back since. Christie also doubles up in the U-21 and the Premier League like so many others at the club.

Tramaine Stewart, a dependable player for Portmore, set up Christie's goal. Stewart himself got two chances to put his name on the scoresheet.

He almost doubled the lead in the 75th minute when he blasted his shot at the Highgate custodian, who did well to parry the ball.

Meanwhile, Portmore's lapse in defence almost cost them a goal five minutes later. Highgate's Dennis Neish cut inside the box from the left and fired on goal and it took a reflex save by Gariece McPherson to deny him the equalising strike.

Stewart missed another glorious chance to add to his personal tally of seven goals and from 10 yards out, he fired powerfully the ball careened off the crossbar, a minute from regulation time.
