Female cop arrested

The police say a woman detective corporal from the St James Police Division was arrested yesterday afternoon on reasonable suspicion of perverting the course of justice and uttering false instruments.

A case file has been submitted to the director of public prosecutions (DPP) for a ruling.

The arrest of the female cop follows a directive issued last week from the commissioner of police to review all cases where Detective Sergeant Michael Sirjue was the investigator or a part of the investigating team.

This directive is to ensure the integrity of future cases.

On February 2, Sirjue was charged with perverting the course of justice and uttering false documents.

The police say the charges point to the fabrication of evidence by Detective Sergeant Sirjue which unfairly implicated accused persons in a case before the Home Circuit Court.

The constabulary will work closely with the DPP to safeguard the investigative process and to maintain utmost honesty and professionalism in all investigations.
