A man who admitted to the court that he accidentally smashed the glass of another man's 1994 Silverado pickup van recently had his bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. He is Tawan Ellis who has been charged with malicious destruction of property. Ellis is to return to court on March 1 when the accused is to further compensate the complainant. The court heard that Ellis during a dispute with others caused a flying object to damage the complainant's windscreen. Ellis, who told the court that he would compensate the accused, got upset because the complainant told the court that he has receipts to show that it will take $38,700 to repair his damaged windscreen. However, the accused told the court that the complainant is lying as they had already agreed upon an out-of-court settlement which would have cost $27,000. Ellis' sister eventually paid over $22,000 on her brother's behalf. |
