A man who reportedly threw a three-week-old baby in a fire was remanded for psychiatric evaluation when he appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday. Charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm is Owen Lobban, 22-year-old labourer, of Glengoffe district, St Catherine. Allegations outlined by Clerk of Court Lori-Ann Montague are that on January 25, about 5 p.m., Lobban went to his mother's house. While there, he reportedly lit a fire with old clothing. He was said to have picked up the child and threw the baby in the fire. After hearing the commotion, a relative sounded an alarm. The baby was rescued by her grandmother and eventually taken to the Glengoffe Police Station. It was revealed in court that the child suffered severe burns from the fiery experience. |
