It may come off as being extremely hilarious, but three inner-city young men hope the 'Wounded Dog' dance move and song will bring them the exposure that they desire.

A video of the dance surfaced on YouTube recently, and has already garnered more than 60,000 views. The main video being viewed is that of the dance creator, Andre 'Pound A Carrot' Mead, and his friend Oraine 'Seet Deh' Roberts doing the move. Since then, the Wounded Squad has increased in numbers to include Shakora Cooper and Shaquena Smith.

The Wounded Dog dance move starts off with the dancer flashing his finger as he asks "Who lick mi dog?". The dancer then mimics a dog running, barking, being hit by a car and later walking with a broken leg.

The views of people who have seen the dance vary from some commending the dancers on their creativity to others ridiculing them.

"Dancehall has literally gone to the dogs lol dwl smh," one viewer said.

Another said, "Y'all a bunch a haters. De man dem fi buss, mi rate it, me na stop duh deh dance ya ... mawd wounded dawg."

But this all started out as a joke for Mead, who is from Delacree Lane in Kingston 13.

"Is one day wi deh a ramp inna one domino game. When mi win di game mi start do a likkle move. Mi did have the dance as a gimmicks dance but then we go a one dance name Grab A Gal Saturdays and from deh so wi do the dance and people gravitate to it and like it, so wi build a song," he said, adding that the video was posted on YouTube by the producer Ishell.

Mead noted that the dance was created in February last year and the song that was done by Romaine 'Infinity' Francis followed in June. He said basic steps were created before the song, but other elements were added after.

At the street dance where the video was done, a selector made a prediction that Wounded Dog would become popular.

"If da song ya nuh buss, mi name change. You see from Nobody Canna Cross It buss and Phone Card buss, dis haffi buss," the selector said.

And this prediction seems as if it is materialising.

"It's the first dance weh wi build but wi did a wait pon the (song) Wounded Dog fi give wi di exposure first. Is a gimmicks so the pickney dem gravitate to it. No matter how many times yuh go places wid it, the people still want to see it," Mead told THE STAR.

However, Mead said they are yet to get the islandwide exposure they desire.

Nonetheless, he said they have done other dance moves like 'Gwaan Bad', 'Bouncer Sunday', 'Snail' and 'Skelter Rock'. Francis also says a song for Gwaan Bad will be released soon.
