A television technician who allegedly stole a TV given to him for maintenance work has been ordered to pay $6,500 in compensation to its owner. Raymond Thompson, of Granville, Montego Bay, is charged with simple larceny to which he had pleaded not guilty in the Montego Bay Resident Magistrate's Court on January 5. In court on Thursday, the complainant told the court that it would cost $3,500 to replace a certain part in the appliance. The additional $3,000 is repayment of money the complainant had reportedly given to Thompson to fix the TV. The matter was set for mention on February 6, by which time Thompson is expected to have the full amount. Allegations are that on August 8, 2011, the complainant gave the TV to Thompson to be repaired but later received information that the accused had sold the appliance to someone else after fixing it. A report was made to the police, who recovered the TV and subsequently arrested and charged Thompson. |
