STUDENTS BEAT COP AT SCHOOL

High drama unfolded at a high school in St Catherine yesterday after a police school resource officer received a number of fists and kicks from two students.

The policeman had to seek medical attention after he was viciously attacked by the irate schoolboys.

Allegations are that he went to stop a group of boys from gambling on the school's compound. Police said he dared to intervene in the game and was then attacked and soundly beaten.

The Star was told that a gang called the "Fry Fish Gang" was the main source of problem at the school.

It was brought to the attention of The Star that the school resource officer has been at the school for sometime without being harmed.

The two boys were taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting police, resisting arrest and assault occasioning bodily harm.

Meanwhile, The Star was told that for sometime now there have been problems at the school.

As it relates to violence in school, acting director of communication in the Ministry of Education, Sheryl Bromfield, said if there are concerns in schools these would be investigated.
