A man is now in custody for allegedly chopping his father to death during a dispute in Comfort Castle, Portland, yesterday.

Dead is 42-year-old Simeon Telfer, a farmer.

Police reports are that about 7:30 a.m., a dispute developed at Telfer's house. A machete was brought into play and he was chopped. The police were summoned and Telfer was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

It is understood that Telfer, who at the time of his death lived with his two sons, was allegedly chopped multiple times in the face by one of them shortly after 6 a.m. on Monday. The incident reportedly took place on his farm where he had gone to speak to his son about taking him to see the doctor.

According to family members, the 24-year-old accused had a medical condition and was due to appear in court tomorrow for allegedly chopping a taxi driver.

Even after the departure of a team from Mizpah funeral home, which collected the body with the face chopped beyond recognition, a finger and a row of teeth were later found lying in the mud near a dasheen patch.

The machete wielding youth was later arrested and taken into custody by the police.

Brother of the deceased, Loxley Telfer, wept openly yesterday as he bemoaned his brother's untimely passing.

"Things will never be the same," he said tearfully. "It is going to be difficult for all of us, as Simeon was like the bread winner for this family. He was kind, friendly, jovial, and he also provided food for all of us. I rushed to assist my brother, who at the time was on the ground crying for help. But by the time I made it through the mud to get to him, it was too late."
