INDECOM probes murder in Kidd Lane

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has commenced an investigation into the shooting death of Nicholas Burke McCarthy, a resident of Kidd Lane, Kingston 13, on Tuesday, approximately 9:35 p.m.

Police reported that about 9:30 p.m. a team of police personnel led by Corporal Tyrone Bailey were on patrol along Spanish Town Road when on their arrival at the intersection of Kidd Lane and Spanish Town Road, a man who was observed standing at the entrance to Kidd Lane ran into the lane.

The officers gave chase. The suspect reportedly ran into a house on Kidd Lane with the police in pursuit.

It is reported that the man opened fire on the officers who returned the fire.McCarthy was hit and a 9mm pistol loaded with 12 live rounds of ammunition, with the serial number erased, was recovered.

He was subsequently taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

The hands of the deceased as well as the concerning officers were swabbed; the relevant firearms secured for forensic analysis and the body of the victim processed.

INDECOM investigators conducted initial interviews with residents of the community; however, they were unable to identify any known witnesses. Investigators are appealing to anyone with information that can help with the investigation to call its office at 1-876-968-8875.
