Downtown Kingston will come alive on Sunday, January 29, as the Dennis Emanuel Brown Trust, in association with JaHRIA, Leggo Records and Sound and Pressure, presents the third annual Dennis Brown Day Celebrations.

The focus of the event will be at Big Yard, 135 Orange Street, where the legendary reggae singer was born and spent his formative years.

The organisers of the event intend to establish Orange Street as a heritage destination that will attract thousands of visitors from around the world.

In addition to the stage show and party aspects of the event, there will also be food and craft vendors, primarily from the downtown Kingston area. There will also be information booths from various service organisations, along with a host of recreational activities for children.

The Dennis Brown Day Celebrations will feature performances from some of Jamaica's top reggae acts including Beres Hammond, Stephen Marley, Damian Marley, Freddie McGregor, Ken Boothe, Tarrus Riley, Cocoa Tea, Big Youth, Half Pint, and Jimmy Riley, backed by Lloyd Parkes and the We the People Band. The performances will begin at 6 p.m.

Brown was born at Big Yard on Orange Street in 1957. He began his career in the late 1960s at age 11.

From those humble beginnings, he went on to become one of the biggest stars in reggae music.

Today, his legacy is celebrated worldwide. He was last year honoured by the Government and the people of Jamaica on October 17, National Heroes Day, with the Order of Distinction Commander Class.
