Asian, Jamaican remanded for assault

An Asian man and a Jamaican woman accused of assault and unlawful wounding were both remanded when they pleaded guilty in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

They are Yoshika Shohet and Chevelle Farrigan both of Kingston addresses. They were charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm and for unlawfully wounding each other.

They will return on March 27 as the file remains incomplete.

In court, Farrigan told Resident Magistrate (RM) Judith Pusey that she was punched in the eye due to an argument that took place when Shohet allegedly tried to make sexual advances to her.

However, Shohet told RM Pusey that he acted in self-defence after he was attacked with a knife and stabbed in the right side of his chest.
