Attorney's bail extended

An attorney-at-law who is accused of assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest among other things, denied the allegations and had her bail extended in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday until March 19.

Charged with common assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest is Marsha White, lawyer, of a Kingston 8 address, who pleaded not guilty.

According to police reports,on the day of the incident, the defendant was driving a blue Honda Civic motor car along Barbados Avenue in New Kingston when she was ordered to stop by a police officer on duty.

It was reported that the cop instructed the defendant that she was stopped because he observed that she was driving without a seat belt.

Furthermore, it is reported that the defendant told the cop that she was not wearing her safety belt because the anchorage of the belt had been damaged in a recent accident.

Further allegations suggest that the cop asked the defendant if he could test her seat belt to warrant her claim but she refused and became irate.

It is alleged that she then became condescending and asked the police officer if he knew who she was.

Her behaviour reportedly attracted a large crowd to the scene forcing the officer to call for reinforcement including the aid of a senior officer. The defendant was later arrested and charged.
