IT will be a busy day on the JAAA athletics calendar tomorrow as there will be five Development meets across the island, with the Central Hurdles and Relays meet at the G.C. Foster College being the main attraction.

The meets, which start at 8:30 a.m, will include the Howard Jackson Relays at Morant Bay High School in St Thomas, the North Central meet at Discovery Bay in St Ann, the Field, Distance and Hurdles meet at The Manning's School in Westmoreland and last, but not least, the Big Shot Invitational in the Corporate Area on the grounds of St Hugh's High School.

It is expected that all athletes from various schools and some from clubs and other institutions will make their presence felt, especially high schools making their bids for qualifying standards for Boys and Girls' Champion-ships, slated for the final weekend of March.

While all will be important, most attention will be centred at G.C. Foster College where most of the top high school athletes are expected to compete. The meet could give a clearer picture of what will happen at Champs. The event to be contested are the 70-metre hurdles, 80-metre hurdles, 100-metre hurdles for females, while for males it will be the 100-metre hurdles and 110-metre hurdles, while both sexes will compete in the 400-metre hurdles open.

Other flat events on the track include the 400 metres, 1500 metres Class-Three boys and girls, and 200 metres for clubs and institutions. There will also be the 4x100 metres relays for all classes along with 4x400 metres open. On the field, there will be long jump for all classes.

It is expected that several of the country's top athletes who did very well at the international level last year, the list includes the likes of Manchester High's Chanice Porter in the long jump, and the talented Janieve Russell of Holmwood Technical, who is expected to launch her 400 metres hurdles, an event which she is expected to concentrate on this season ahead of the World Junior Championships.

As usual, it should be exciting action in the relays as teamstune up for Gibson. Among the boys, all eyes will be on the Wolmer's Boys' Class-One 4x100 metres team, which will include the likes of Odean Skeen and new recruit Adam Cummings, formerly of Munro High. Among the females, the Christania Williams-led Edwin Allen Class-Two team will get a lot of action.
