Constable offered $200,000 bail

A police constable who has been charged with perverting the course of justice was offered $200,000 bail in the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's Court yesterday.

He is 28-year-old Nikio McKenzie, who is to return to court on February 29.

The constable was charged after investigations by the Anti-Corruption Branch revealed that he misled the court into believing that an affidavit he endorsed in a divorce case was served on one of the individuals.

However, it was later revealed that the person was off the island and was unaware of the divorce proceedings.

The court has since rescinded the divorce which was granted.

Meanwhile, a stop order has been placed on the constable and he is to report to the Mandeville Police Station on Saturdays.
