Elderly Jamaican held in Antigua - Old woman accused of smuggling weed
A Jamaican woman who was caught with drugs at the VC Bird International Airport in Antigua on Thursday is due to appear before the All Saints Magistrate Asquith Riviere this week.

According to a report in the Antigua Observer, 61-year-old Norma Alvira Williams, who resides at Bathlodge, is accused of unlawful possession of 35.5 grams of ganja, importation and intent to transfer the contraband.

The police have estimated the street value to be EC$355 ($11,388.50).

Reports are that about 6:30 p.m., Williams arrived in Antigua via a Caribbean Airlines flight from Jamaica.

During a routine search, Customs officials became suspicious of the packaging of a particular tracksuit and turned the matter over to police.

A thorough search unearthed the ganja, which was wrapped in several plastic bags and laid out in the lining of a tracksuit.

THE STAR understands that Williams is the first person caught with drugs at VC Bird International Airport since the beginning of the year.
