Round final battle goes down to ultimate day

The finalists in the Red Stripe Premier League second-end-of-round final will not be known until the playing of the rounds final set of matches on Wednesday, as five teams are still in with a shot of progressing to the all-incentive final.

League leaders Portmore United lead the charge to make it to successive finals, having won the first-end-of-round final, despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Arnett Gardens yesterday at Ferdie Neita Park.

Portmore took the lead in the 32nd minute courtesy of an own goal, but Fabian Reid earned Arnett a share of the points with a 79th minute goal.

The result saw Portmore progress to 38 points overall, while they have accumulated 20 second-round points. Arnett climb one place to sixth on 29 points, while maintaining an outside chance of a place in the final with 16 points.

Humble Lion got back to winning ways following two consecutive defeats, as they turned back the challenge of Boys' Town 2-0 at the Effortville Community Centre. Humble Lion's goals were scored by Oneke Ford in the third minute and Omando McLoud (66th).

The win saw Humble Lion climb one place to second in the 12-team table with 33 points. They also joined Montego Bay United, level on points, in the second-round standings with 18 points, but MoBay have a superior goal difference.

Waterhouse slipped to third, on goal difference with 33 points, after playing away to a 1-1 draw with Sporting Central Academy at Brancourt. Vincent Earle gave Water-house the lead in the 31st minute, but Francois Swaby (32nd) pulled Sporting level a minute later, keeping them in seventh place on 27 points.

Waterhouse, who will host Humble Lion in the final round on Wednesday, are also in with a chance of making the final as they have 17 second-round points.

Sporting, who ended the game with 10 players after Christopher Banner was ejected in the 83rd minute, have failed to register a win in their last seven games.

After going on a poor run, which saw them register just one win in 12 games, and losing four on the trot, Tivoli Gardens recorded their third successive victory as they stopped Highgate United 3-1 at Lynch Park.

Tivoli got their goals by way of Roland Dean (4th and 36th) and Dane Kelly (84th) to progress to 32 points, as they held firm in fourth. Highgate replace Reno in the relegation zone, courtesy of an inferior goal difference, as they are 11th on 21 points.

Both teams failed to end the game with their full complement of players after Barrington James was ejected for Highgate in the 12th minute and Ronique Anderson for Tivoli in the 63rd.

Montego Bay United, the other team vying for a place in the end-of-round -final, also had a player sent off in their match against Reno at Frome Sports Complex, which ended 0-0. Nicholai Finlayson was sent to have an early shower in the 88th minute.

MoBay lie eighth in the overall standings with 28 points, while Reno climbed out of the relegation zone by way of a superior goal difference to 10th on 21 points.

Cellar dwellers Village United (15) held fifth place Harbour View (29) to a nil-all draw at the Elliston Wakeland Centre. Fabian Taylor (38th) and Orlando McBayne (84th) were red carded for Harbour View and Village, respectively.
