A 33-year-old Jamaican national was on Monday sentenced to more than 22 years in prison after being convicted of running a large drug trafficking ring in the United States (US). According to a report in the Tucson Sentinel, after a five-week trial Mikado Nabob Thompson, of Fort Lauderdale, was found guilty of continuing criminal enterprise and conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 1,000 kilograms of marijuana. According to Debra Massey, a US Attorney's Office spokesperson, Thompson led a violent drug trafficking organisation that distributed more than 11,000 pounds of marijuana from Tucson to cities on the East Coast. She said Thompson and members of the ring amassed assets that included a 2008 Lamborghini Murcielago for which he paid $335,000 in cash. THE STAR understands that Federal agents had seized a 2006 Rolls Royce Phantom worth $253,000, more than $100,000 in cash and several weapons. With his sentence, US District Court judge Raner C. Collins entered an order of forfeiture against Thompson for $4.4 million. THE STAR also understands that a co-defendant, Paul L. Williams, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute. |
