Student on assault charge to buy victim BlackBerry phone

A female student who the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court was told 'beat down' another girl after the complainant refrained from retaliating, will have to buy a brand new BlackBerry Curve smartphone on Friday.

The accused, Kerry-Ann Brown of a Castle Road, Kingston 7 address who is charged with assault occasioning bodily harm, faced the court on Monday.

The court heard that on December 28 of last year, the complainant was standing in a wholesale in the Papine area with her back turned to the exit when she felt a liquid substance hit her body.

The unidentified liquid which was in a bottle aimed at her head reportedly ran from her head down on to her back.

When the complainant turned around, she reportedly saw Brown who approached her and grabbed her in the head and shoved her to the ground, causing damage to her body and her BlackBerry smartphone which she had in her hand.

The complainant reportedly received bruises to the left side of her head and left side of her neck.

Her smartphone which was smashed is valued at $28,000.

The complainant told the court that she did not fight back because she is a student focused on her academics and upward social mobility, and did not want to smear her academic endeavours.

Upon hearing the complainant, Senior Resident Magistrate Judith Pusey, ordered the accused to purchase a brand new smartphone which must be handed over in court on January 13.
