Digicel, in association with the Jamaica Olympic Association, raised an additional US$21,500 for the Bustamante Hospital for Children through the donation to the auction of two tickets to the London Olympics 2012, at the charity auction at Shaggy and Friends on Saturday last.

The lucky bidder, Jamaica-born businessman Junior Williams, who is visiting the island, will be off to hot spot London this summer to see the games live and direct. The tickets mean Williams and a guest will be able to enjoy six major track and field events - including the much-anticipated men's 100m finals. Williams was one of the most active bidders involved in the auction, and made many more purchases including a limited-edition Usain Bolt jersey and shoes.

a great show

"My taking part in the auction was mainly for the cause. Just to know that the funds will be assisting the Bustamante Children's Hospital is all I need to know. I have been blessed in my business and this was an easy way for me to give back - and to top it off it was a great show," Williams explained.

Digicel's Senior Sponsorship and Activations Manager Shelly-Ann Curran, said; "We are pleased to have put these tickets up for auction in collaboration with the Jamaica Olympics Association. This was another way for us to further our commitment to the children of this nation, in this case the little patients at the Bustamante Hospital for Children who are suffering from congenital and acquired heart disease. We are grateful to Mr Williams for his generous bid on these tickets, and we are sure he will enjoy his trip to London, not just to see our own Digicel brand ambassador and the world's fastest man, Usain Bolt, but the entire Jamaican sporting delegation live and direct."

Curran also encouraged customers to continue to make additional contributions to the cause through the Digicel donation text line. To donate, customers can simply text 488-4175 at a cost of J$20. The text line closes on January 31, 2012.
