Stewart seals Notts loan move |
|||||
![]() File - Damion Stewart Jamaican International Damion Stewart has completed a loan move to English League outfit Notts County away from Championship team Bristol City, for the rest of the season. The 31-year-old defender was signed by the club in 2010 by the team's former manager Steve Coppell but has failed to make any real impression under the new man at the helm, Keith Millen. The player had a season on loan with Bradford in 2005-06, his first club in English football, before spending four seasons with QPR. The defender went on to make 18 appearances that season, but has only featured three times for Bristol in their current campaign. record losses Unfortunately for the 6ft 3inch defender, in one of his most recently appearances for the club, in a reserve match, he scored an own goal in a 3-2 loss to Exeter City. It had been thought that the defender might have been offloaded in November of last year due to the club suffering record losses. Stewart, however, retained his place in the squad. Playing time will be crucial for Stewart if he intends to have any chance of being recalled to Jamaica's national team ahead of the 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, which gets under way in June of this year. Although he has been capped 55 times for the national team, the defender has not featured for the Reggae Boyz since a disastrous 2009 Gold Cup campaign for Jamaica, which saw the defender being sent home after reported issues with the coaching staff. With the team's dismal run of form in recent games, and the promise of a squad shake-up by national coach Theodore Whitmore, a look at Stewart cannot be ruled out. The defender will be available for Notts County in their game against Doncaster in today's round of FA Cup matches. |
