Search operation in St Catherine

The police in St Catherine on Wednesday seized two illegal firearms in separate searches conducted in the parish.

Reports reaching THE STAR are that at about 10 a.m., the first search was carried out in the Tredegar Park area.

It is understood that a joint operation between the St Catherine North Operations Team and the Jamaica Defence Force led to the seizure of an AK-47 rifle.

The weapon was reportedly found in bushes on the compound of an unfinished building.

Further reports are that at about 8:15 p.m., the second seizure was made when the Street Crime Unit carried out a search of an abandoned building on Corletts Road in Spanish Town.

A Winchester rifle and seven 12-gauge cartridges were found.

THE STAR understands that no arrests have been made in connection with the seizures.
