CCJ to see Myrie's case

Shanique Myrie, the Jamaican woman who says she was denied entry into Barbados, detained and was cavity searched by Barbadian immigration officials last year, will have her case brought before the Caribbean Court of Justice (CCJ) by her attorneys after a claim was filed by her legal team yesterday.

In an earlier story, Myrie had told THE STAR that she was not allowed to enter the Caribbean island on March 14 of last year and was mistreated after being labelled as a drug mule from Jamaica.

THE STAR understands that attorneys for Myrie also stated that they have failed in their efforts to engage the Barbadian government. As a result they say they are left with no other alternative but to bring the matter before the CCJ. They say the move is to have the significant issues raised and adjudicated which will set the precedent for how persons move throughout the diaspora.

THE STAR was unable to receive comment from Myrie or her attorneys in the matter.
