The burnt, decomposing body of an elderly man was found in bushes along the Dyke Road in Portmore on Monday morning.

He has been identified as Clifford Bennett, a 66-year-old labourer of Abdul Avenue in Portmore.

Reports from the Portmore police are that about 9:45 a.m. lawmen, conducted an operation in the area during which the body was found. An on-the-spot post-mortem was ordered because of the advanced state of decomposition. It showed that death was the result of a gunshot wound.

Members from the St Catherine Technical Services Division processed the scene and the body was removed to the morgue.

Detectives from the Major Investigations Taskforce are investigating.
