The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the controversial police killing of a 25-year-old man on Chestnut Lane in downtown Kingston on Thursday. The dead man has been identified as Jeffrey Bailey. Reports reaching THE STAR are that the police were in the area when men inside a house fired on them. The police returned fire and one of the men was found suffering from gunshot wounds. He then attempted to fire at the police and was shot again. THE STAR understands that another man who had run outside the house escaped. The police say a .380 Taurus pistol with three live rounds was recovered. In the meantime a statement from INDECOM says its investigators recovered six spent casings from the scene of the shooting. The hands of police personnel involved in the shooting, as well as the dead man's have been swabbed. A photograph was also taken of the firearm that was allegedly recovered. |
