A Scandinavian man and a Jamaican woman, who have been accused of operating a fake employment agency in Mandeville, had their bail extended in the Mandeville Resident Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. They are Giadrius Marzurka and his co-accused, Juliet Campbell. Both Marzuka and Campbell have been charged with seven counts of operating an employment agency without the requisite licence, obtaining money by means of false pretence, fraudulent conversion, and conspiracy to defraud. The matter is to be mentioned on February 1 as the file is incomplete. Allegations are that the employment agency, which operated under the business name Global Choices, on Caledonia Road, offered the service of assisting persons with the process of obtaining visas in order to take up jobs in the United States of America. It is reported that several visas were cancelled due to the lack of job offers. The matter was reported to the police after no refund of payments was reportedly made by the agency to the participants in the programme. |
