![]() Portia Simpson Miller takes the oath of office to become prime minister as Governor General Sir Patrick Allen looks on during yesterday's swearing-in ceremony at King's House in St Andrew. -Ricardo Makyn INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTAR Shaggy had Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller grinning from ear-to-ear as he performed at yesterday's inauguration ceremony for the new Jamaican prime minister at King's House. Shaggy performed his hit Strength of a Woman, which Simpson Miller has been using as her theme song. The 66-year-old Simpson Miller was sworn in as prime minister before a bumper crowd estimated to be in the region of 10,000. Organisers succeeded in getting persons attending the function to leave their horns, vuvuzelas and pot covers at home, but nothing could stop the partisan crowd from demonstrating their love and support for the popular Simpson Miller. When Governor General Sir Patrick Allen presented Simpson Miller as the new prime minister at 4:27 p.m., there was an outburst of cheers, and many in the crowd held their clenched fists high, some of them shouting "Portia" and "People Power". It is the second time in five years that Simpson Miller is being sworn in as prime minister and she described the experience as sobering. "...After being tested and tempered, I stand before you, today, a stronger and better person, who is prepared to be of service to my country and people," she said.
