Wanted to prove husband was unfaithful A woman accused of inventing the existence of a child she claimed her husband fathered outside of their marriage because she wanted to claim half of his assets, denied the allegations in court yesterday. The woman, 55-year-old Marlene Johnson Davis, a teacher from Mineral Heights in May Pen, Clarendon, appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magistrate's Court. Davis, charged with forgery, uttering forged documents, and conspiracy, was ordered to return to court for mention on January 10, as her attorney Peter Champagnie was not present. Allegations are that sometime in 2010, the teacher accused her husband of fathering a child outside of their marriage. The accusation is said to have caused the marriage to fail and on February 1, 2010, she took her husband to the Resident Magistrate's Court and requested that a property owned by him be sold in order for her to be paid alimony. On July 5, 2011, she submitted a birth certificate in the name Nikoy Davis to the Supreme Court Registry claiming it to be that of the child. When checks were made at the Registrar General Department, it was found that the birth certificate submitted was not authentic. The matter was reported to the police and following investigations the accused was arrested on December 15. Interestingly, the court heard that since the accusations were made the accused kicked the complainant out of his own home, changed the locks to the property and moved in a man. |
