The police have charged a boy after it is alleged that he threw a stone that caused another student to lose his eye while he was playing football at school recently. The May Pen police say that the boy was held on wounding charges and is to appear in court on Friday. Allegations are that on November 29, 12-year-old Nicholas Edgar, had been playing football at his school in Clarendon, when he was hit with an object on his left eye. He was subsequently treated at the Mandeville Hospital where the damaged eye was removed. When THE STAR recently spoke with Nicholas' family, they said that the youngster is having serious problems dealing with his injury. The family said that not only are they still in shock, but they are now worried that the injury is having a serious impact on the youngster's life. "Right now the family cannot even enjoy the holidays as we have to be worried about the child's welfare," Ezra Edgar, the father said. He told THE STAR that the boy is acting strange and needs help. "Since him lose the eye, him start to show signs of stress and it bothers me. Him just call himself a king and go pon di bed and looking strange," Edgar continued. When THE STAR visited the family in the Chateau community near Palmers Cross in the parish, the family and friends spoke openly of their pain. "His unfortunate accident really affect us badly, he is no longer the child that we have come to love," Velrita Ellis, the child's mother said. They pleaded for help from the public to assist the boy in recovering from his injury. At the school where the incident took place, the school's principal when contacted said he was aware of what took place. "It is a sad incident that we wish never happened. We will have to ask students to be more careful. The police were contacted," he said. |
