Absinthe: Supernova

Syndicate Events and Red Stripe Bold presents Absinthe, The Genesis, New Year's Eve Party, held at Palisadoes Go-Kart Track on Saturday night December 31, 2011.

With patrons scampering for presold tickets earlier in the day, it came as no surprise that Absinthe: Supernova was a well-attended party when held at the Palisadoes Go-Kart Track, Kingston, on Saturday.

While the party was already in full gear, some patrons ushered in the new year in traffic or in the parking lot. Nonetheless, the fireworks from Kingston Waterfront were still visible and the mood from inside the party felt.

The mood was a jubilant one but was somewhat cut short for females in heels who had to contend with the ankle-twisting gravel and the rough parking lot that led to the venue. Inside, Johnny Kool entertained patrons after counting down the new year with them. He was followed by DJ Pepsi from Renaissance Disco, who played songs for lovers. He got a good response when he selected tracks like Let's Get It On and Sexual Healing.

After some dance songs from Pepsi, Sanjay from Coppershot followed. He made patrons do the 'Willie Bounce' dance move to Mr Wacky's All Dem Dey. Shortly after, he had them dancing in an erotic manner to Lady Saw's If Di Man Lef, Pamputae's Call Yuh Man Name and Leftside's Want Yuh Body. He also gave the audience a taste of soca, dance music and recent dancehall songs.

But by 2 a.m., there was a damper on the party as most of the bars had run out of popular liquor like vodka and white rum. At least the promoters could boast that food was still available long after 4 a.m.

Johnny Kool returned and entertained with Mavado's Touch Di Road and made patrons sing along to Popcaan's Raving. But it was Pepsi who hit the right note among patrons with his mix of Rihanna's We Found Love and Bob Marley's Is This Love. As the selector played Moves Like Jagger, confetti filled the air.

The 'Overproof' rhythm found favour among the patrons and so too did Seanizzle's 'One Day' rhythm. Popcaan could do no wrong with Clean and Only Man She Want. And after a few songs from Mavado and Vybz Kartel, patrons got wild and gyrated to Lil Rick's Go Dung and Demarco's Love A Come Down. Teased all night by various selectors, patrons finally got the chance to dance to Vybz Kartel's World Boss.

Although it had been a long night, patrons seemed to be in no hurry to leave the party up to as late as 4:30 a.m.
