Devoted to God

Winifred E Davis

GEORGE HENRY, STAR Writer

Winifred E Davis of the Sanguinetti New Testament Church of God in Clarendon has been walking with God from she was a tot. Decades later, she is still working hard for her Master and has served him in different capacities since then.

She told THE STAR that she was a very religious person even before she surrendered her life to Jesus Christ. Davis, who was confirmed in the Moravian Church at Ritches in the parish, said while she was attending primary school, a friend of hers told her that she was a Christian even before she got saved.

"I grew up in the Ritches Moravian Church; but I made the switch some years after I realised that I needed something more. It was then that I decided to start attending the Sanguinetti New Testament Church where I have been a member for more than 30 years; and I am very happy to know that I am a part of this assembly," said Davis.

God is a reality

The church veteran worker, who also served at the Sanguinetti church as Family Training Hour secretary and Sunday school assistant superintendent, said she takes the work of the Lord seriously. She pointed out that that is so because serving God is a reality; and that she has had a personal encounter with the Lord.

"When I was attending the Moravian Church, I believe I was a Christian, but when I got the personal encounter with the Lord Jesus Christ, I knew that He is real," said the churchwoman.

The church clerk said her longevity in the church over the decades has to do with the fact that her personal encounter with the Lord has done something to her over the years. She said her love for Christ has helped her to remain focused, as she looks towards the coming of her Maker.

"His grace is sufficient to keep me. I have been able to deal with my many challenges as a Christian because of the conviction that I have had. I can say like Paul (Bible character); I know in whom I believe; and I am persuaded that neither death nor life nor things to come, nor things present, nor trials or whatever can separate me from the love of God. I love the Lord so much," bragged Davis.

Davis' favourite Bible verse is found in Psalm 103 verse 1. It says, 'Bless the Lord, oh my soul and all that is within me, bless His holy name'. Her favourite chorus is 'Thou knowest all my weakness; thou knowest all my cares'.

She said these are her favourites because she is fully aware that she is insufficient before the Lord; and that she cannot do anything without Him.
