Go with Blast Them Away

Jimmie, Star Racing Writer

CHAMPION trainer Wayne DaCosta's unbeaten United States-bred two-year-old colt, BLAST THEM AWAY, goes for a fourth win tomorrow afternoon in the toughest field he has faced since debuting late May.

The American is one of four runners in the 1400-metre ninth race for DaCosta who put the lid on an 11th trainers' championship on Tuesday when ALL CORRECT won the $4.25m Supreme Ventures Limited Jamaica Two-Year-Old Stakes.

BLAST THEM AWAY's nine rivals include seven United States-bred runners, one being stablemate REAL VIBES MACHINE, who finished third last Wednesday behind RICHIESHAPPYNOTION and ARGUMENT DONE at 1200 metres.

Lorne Kirlew's RICHIESHAPPYNOTION and Anthony Nunes' ARGUMENT DONE are back for tomorrow's event, joined by Gary Subratie's NOON IT IS, who BLAST THEM AWAY had beaten by four and a half lengths on December 3 in the 1200-metre Dye Job Sprint.

RICHIESHAPPYNOTION made his debut in the Dye Job Sprint and finished a creditable third, beaten 12 lengths by BLAST THEM AWAY, after swerving at the start.

However, the bay colt returned last Wednesday, treated with lasix, and clocked 1:13.0 for 1200 metres, just a fifth slower than the 1:12.4 posted by BLAST THEM AWAY when DaCosta's runner had beaten him by 12 lengths.

Railbird talk is that RICHIESHAPPYNOTION is better than his much-heralded stablemate, MISMYRTLEBOYRICHIE, who is nine from 10 and a top grade-one runner.

However, RICHIESHAPPYNOTION hasn't shown that class at exercise nor did he beat any runner of note. ARGUMENT DONE, who he beat by three and three quarter lengths, is yet to get off the mark in three starts whereas third-place REAL VIBES MACHINE is winless in two outings.

Going up against BLAST THEM AWAY will be a leap in class for RICHIESHAPPYNOTION, taking on a winner of three races from three to six and a half furlongs.

In addition, the increased distance of seven furlongs will definitely suit BLAST THEM AWAY who has looked stronger in the latter part of his races. He's also able to sit in a quick pace as he did on October 26, disputing splits of 23.1, 46.0 and 1:12.1 before sprinting three lengths clear to beat EL PODEROSO in 1:19.4 at six and a half.

BLAST THEM AWAY should notch a fourth win for the returning champion trainer as not even NOON IT IS, who returns minus her visor, Subratie hoping she will get the distance with the change of equipment, will be able to turn the table on DaCosta's colt.
