Elderly man dies after wrong vote

An elderly man who emerged from a polling station in Buff Bay, Portland, yesterday morning exclaiming that he had voted for the wrong person has died.

Dead is 70-year-old Sylvester Nugent, a farmer of Mullet Hall in West Portland.

Reports reaching THE WEEKEND STAR are that Nugent went to the Avocot Primary and Junior High School where he voted.

According to the police, the farmer entered the voting facility shortly after 10:30 a.m., accompanied by a group of JLP supporters, as he was unable to walk by himself.

It is understood that while exiting the facility, Nugent, who was again assisted by a JLP supporter, slumped to the ground and was motionless.

He was taken to the Annotto Bay Hospital some 18 miles away where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

A source told THE WEEKEND STAR while walking out Nugent expressed that he had 'voted for the wrong person'.

THE WEEKEND STAR understands that some supporters of the PNP lambasted the JLP for bringing out an elderly man with a serious medical condition to vote.
