Peaceful election night

PAULA GORDON, STAFF REPORTER

Despite the unexpected landslide victory by the People's National Party (PNP) at the polls last evening there were no confirmed reports of violence across the island.

The party that was defeated by the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) back in 2007 came out the victor winning a total of 41 seats compared to the JLP's 22.

About 10 p.m., THE WEEKEND STAR received reports that sporadic gunshots were heard in sections of Greater Portmore, St Catherine.

However, checks revealed that no reports had been made. Checks were also made at several police stations across the Corporate Area. It was revealed that there was no upsurge in violence following the announcement.

When contacted for a comment, the Constabulary Communications Network said they had not received any reports of gunfire or any other kinds of violence across the island.
