Yesterday thrives in new venue

Popular '90s party Yesterday lived up to its high standard. Despite being hosted in a new venue, the event maintained its strong support from patrons and delivered its usual entertainment value.

The Lime Golf Academy was more spacious than the old venue, however, one could not tell based on the size of the crowd that filled every inch of the venue.

THE STAR arrived at the event just after midnight during the juggling of DJ Kurt Riley, and he played old school selections from hip-hop artistes like Ice Cube and Snoop Dogg. He also played disco songs like The Exercise Dance. "Let me see all the ladies that can go low," Riley shouted over the microphone.

This song required crowd participation and this they did, as the females moved their bodies to the deejay's every instruction.

Renaissance took over at 1 a.m., with veteran DJ Delano.

He started his selections with Buju Banton's interlude, The Lord Is My Shepherd. He then played selections from Buju Banton, among them, It's Not An Easy Road and I Wanna Be Loved.

He also played Bounty Killer's The Lord Is My Light And My Salvation and Harry Toddler's Angel.

Delano was obviously in a no-nonsense mood, and he made this known by playing a series of hardcore dancehall songs. Each went down well with the crowd, as he was rewarded with whistles and roars of approval.

At 1:30 a.m., he got the females involved by playing songs dedicated to them, like General Degree's Think It Ago Guh Suh.

He then teased the audience with Popcaan's Clean, the crowd erupted at this point.

"Where my ladies at ...? Watch me and my ladies them," he said.

He went on to play Bounty Killer's Dem Leave The World Inna Suspense Remix.

Delano was in his element, and speaking of element, one important element of the '90s was the musical war between Bounty Killer an Beenie Man. And Delano took the patrons down memory lane by playing diss songs such as Riding West by Bounty Killer, followed by Beenie Man's counteraction.

Soon it was time to get back to the females as he played Go Go Wine, Dancehall Queen, and If Him Lef.

He also teased them with Vybz Kartel's Bike Back.

A soca segment followed, and patrons were all actively participating on the dance floor to the sound of soca songs such as Tiney Winey, Wine and Touch yuh Toes and Ring Road.

Overall, Yesterday definitely delivered another successful staging.
