|||||
Hilary Jardine. - File Hilary Jardine, the former president of the Jamaica Race Drivers' Club (JRDC), resigned from his post effective December 1. He was the president of the JRDC for the past six years but served the sport for many, many years. During Jardine's presidency of the JRDC, the club grew significantly. He spearheaded the improved physical infrastructure of Dover, the current premier circuit racing facility in St Ann. Additionally, he was the driving force behind the revival of the very successful Caribbean Motor Racing Championship. Jardine has been involved in motorsport in Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Jamaica at various levels for over 50 years. He is Guyanese by birth, however, he became a naturalised Jamaican the late 1960s. Soon after arriving in Jamaica, he formed the Jamaica Motor Racing Association and developed a racing facility at Vernam Field. His first race meet was at the National Stadium in late 1970. Jardine has passed the baton to vice-president Captain Marck Carey in order for the organisation to carry out its functions with a smooth transition of leadership. The six-term vice-president is both an organiser and competitor who finds time to build his own race cars. The other members of the executive are David Summerbell Jr, secretary; Don Thompson, treasurer; and directors Monique Gibbs, David Mais, Lisa Williams, Dean Corrodus, Raymond Donaldson, and Kyle Gregg. |
