Shooters ready for Rappa-Pam-Pam |
|||||
Orville Henriques in practice earlier this week. - file Local shooters will have one final chance this year to test their sharpness as well assess their growth throughout the year when the Manchester Rifle and Pistol Club (MRPC) hosts its final tournament on Sunday. The one-day event, which will see shooters engaged in a whopping eight stages, is titled 'Christmas Rappa-Pam-Pam' in keeping with the current season. The chief sponsors are Innovative Transportation Ltd, who, in addition to providing prize money, hope to make it an entire family affair. Entry will be free for spectators and so will refreshment and meals all day. "It's their way of saying, let's not make it a shooters thing," club president and one of the main drawing cards in the tournament, Orville Henriques, told Star Sports. "Shooting is a serious thing, but it's also an exciting sport that people can watch and enjoy," he added. The venue, situated in Lincoln, which is six miles west of Mandeville, is ideal as it can facilitate in excess of 100 cars. Despite the expected dominance of Henriques, who has won all but two of the tournaments that have been staged there for the last two years, competition among the second-tier shooters should be keen. Much interest has been generated by the form of David 'Bull Dog' McMoriss. The shooter was injured prior to the start of the last Street Gun championship, leaving female competitor Sue-Ann Henriques to grab centre stage behind tournament winner Orville Henriques. McMorris' return should push other competitors to display their best. One other major incentive to perform, according to Henriques, is the rankings ahead of the New Year. |
