A long-standing dispute over a key to the entrance of high-rise tenement structure on Rum Lane in Kingston led to the stabbing death of a woman yesterday morning.
Dead is 29-year-old Sophia Bailey from the community.
Reports from the Constabulary Communication Network are that about 3:30 a.m., Bailey was involved in an argument when she was stabbed.
The Kingston Central police were summoned and she was taken to the Kingston Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
When THE WEEKEND STAR visited the community, not many persons were around.
However, Alvy Green, the deceased woman's mother, who was visibly distraught, said her daughter had been living at the rented premises for about three months.
She claimed that last month Bailey had cut a key for the front grille to the premises but that the man accused of killing her demanded it from her.
"The grille close at certain time of the night and is only the family members keep a key, so when she come in she have to call someone to let her in," she said.
THE WEEKEND STAR understands that Bailey had gone to a party and she along with three friends, including her boyfriend, returned home.
"Is me she call fi let har in and mi let har in and she go upstairs," a tenant said.
It is understood that Bailey and her guests went up to the balcony but they were later ordered off by the accused.
It is alleged that an argument developed and after a decision was taken to leave the premises, Bailey was pounced upon and stabbed several times.
The accused allegedly fled the area after the killing.
The Kingston Central police are investigating. |
