Bell KO gets new sponsors

The Jamaica Yellow Pages will this season be the title sponsors for the Kingston and St Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) Jackie Bell Knockout competition.

The company will sponsor the competition to the tune of $12 million.

The sponsorship will last for three years.

"This sponsorship represents the culmination of several years of discussion with KSAFA," Cecelia Bell, marketing manager of Jamaica Yellow Pages, said at the launch of the competition at her company's head office yesterday.

"We felt football at the club level is a suitable avenue through which to support the development of the sport in Jamaica, generally, while giving back to the community and projecting the Jamaica Yellow Pages brand in a positive and meaningful way," she added.

"Bell also stated that the Jamaica Yellow Pages, like football, reaches Jamaicans from "all walks of life" and that the sponsorship was the beginning of an important partnership with KSAFA that the company hopes will derive mutual benefits and last for many years..

The competition, which will kick off today with six first-round matches, will see 30 teams from the confederation taking part and five from the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL), 12 from the KSAFA's first-tier Super League and 14 from the KSAFA's second-tier Major League.

RSPL campaigners Harbour View are the defending champions.

"KSAFA is delighted that the Jamaica Yellow Pages, a first-time sponsor of football in Jamaica, has decided to come on board and partner with us in promoting this premier knockout competition," said KSAFA president, Rudolph Speid, at the launch.

The Jamaica Defence Force will go up against Constant Spring at Up Park Camp in the feature game of today's opening round of matches.

In other matches, Greenwich Town will face Olympic Gardens at Tinson Pen, Molynes United will tackle Mountain View at Molynes playfield, Allman/Woodford will take on Real Mona at Heroes' Circle, the University of the West Indies (UWI) will host Duhaney Park at the UWI Bowl and August Town will play away to Santos at the Bell/Chung Oval.
