American church elder knocks Rastaman unconscious?

The American church elder who is accused of knocking a Rastafarian man unconscious because he spat at him had his bail extended yet again when he appeared in court yesterday.

He is 21-year-old Tuai Paul, otherwise called 'Elder Tuai', who is to return to court on January 18 for mention.

The accused has been charged with unlawful wounding.

Allegations are that on September 4, about 5 p.m., the 48-year-old complainant was standing along Dillon Avenue in Kingston 5, when a grey motor van made a sudden stop hitting him on the left foot.

It is alleged that when the complainant sought to find out what had happened, the driver proceeded to drive off. The complainant then used his hand to hit the vehicle.

On the last occasion, the court heard that the accused, who was a passenger, came out of the vehicle and hit the complainant in his chest. The court also heard that the accused then punched the complainant across the face causing him to pass out.

According to court documents, when the complainant regained consciousness, he realised that his head was bleeding and his dentures broken.

The matter was subsequently reported to the police.

It is understood that the complainant is seeking $1 million in damages.

Attorney-at-law Patrick Atkinson is representing the accused.
