Retrial ordered for labourer on rape, assault, abduction rap

Rasbert Turner, STAR Writer

A retrial was ordered for a St Catherine man on Monday after the jury in his matter failed to reach a unanimous verdict.

Hector Frazier, a 28-year-old labourer of Kitson Town, St Catherine was before the court on charges of rape, indecent assault and abduction stemming from a 2007 incident.

The seven-member jury retired for more than an hour in the St Catherine Circuit Court but could not reach to a unanimous or majority verdict.

High Court Judge, Justice Christine McDonald ruled that it was a hung jury.

The jury was excused and Frazier's bail extended until January 9 when he is to be retried in the St Catherine Circuit Court.

Frazier, who was represented by attorney-at-law Courtney Maxwell, gave an unsworn statement.

Allegations are that on November 19, 2007 the complainant met the accused after a job interview. He reportedly took her to his home where he sexually assaulted her repeatedly. She was released the following day.

The woman subsequently reported that she was abducted and raped.

An investigation by Detective Corporal Kirk Roache resulted in Frazier being charged.
