Mico dominate WUNC training squad |

Following Mico University College's historic win last Thursday at GC Foster College's netball court in Spanish Town, capturing the institution's first title, nine members of the team have been named in a training list of 30 to prepare for the inaugural World University Netball Championships (WUNC). The tournament will be held in Cape Town, South Africa, from June 26 to July 28 next year. The list was announced by former head of coaching and national selection for the Jamaica Netball Association (JNA), Dr Paula Daley-Morris, at the conclusion of the Intercol final. Several national players, led by the Mico University College trio of Vanessa Walker, Patricia McCalla, Vangalee Williams, who competed at the recent Fastnet tournament, along with Kimone Tulloch, who represented the country at last year's World Netball Championships in Singapore, have been included. Other members of the Mico winning team in the squad are Kereisa Kesna, Sharna Carridice, Kenigga Buckle, Jodian Buckle and Stacy-Ann Griffiths. Two players who also represented Jamaica at the Fastnet tournament, the University of West Indies' (UWI) Malysha Kelly and GC Foster College's Sasha-Gay Lynch are also among those selected. The Spanish Town institution also has five other members included in the squad, while UWI have three more. The others from GC Foster College are Stacy-Ann Facey, Nicole Diaz, Petal Smith, Shanice Rowe and Shantal Slater. The UWI invitees are Trishelle Williams, Shadian Hemmings and Julene Williams. The Intercol junior champions St Joseph's Teacher's College have three members of their successful team and they are Karen Carr, Tashi Stewart and Francine Ebanks. Beaten intermediate finalist Portmore Community College have two members in the squad in Camille Brown and Keneisha Tulloch. Completing the squad of 30 are Lundie Rose Martin and Asheka Johnson (Exed Community College, EXED), Abigail Lounge and Natalee James (Northern Caribbean University, Lundie Rose Martin and Asheka Johnson (EXED) and Sharrell McDonald from Caribbean Maritime Institute. Training sessions will commence next January with the squad expected to be reduced to 12. |
